You know that rare feeling when you meet someone whose energy just matches yours?

That's exactly how it was when Alex and Jamie met in college. Both were passionate athletes—Alex trained in Judo with the Japanese Olympic team and practiced Muay Thai in Thailand, while also expressing his creativity through large-scale murals. Jamie shared the same drive as a high school cross-country and track team captain.

But at 19, a tragic accident left Jamie paralyzed from the waist down, and everything changed. Over the next few years, Jamie navigated a new reality and began looking for hobbies that could support both mental and physical recovery. This journey led to scuba diving.

After that, Alex and Jamie headed to Catalina and became PADI® certified divers, and that's when the idea for what would become Smart Gum was born.

Meet Alex & Jamie

It was during that moment Jamie realized that some people enter your life for a reason. Alex was there, supporting Jamie in every way through the recovery journey. That experience made them realize they could create something greater—something to help people become more productive in a sustainable way—and so Smart Gum was founded in 2015.

Alex understood the struggle—between school and intense training, the need for a better solution than supplements, energy drinks, or unpredictable caffeine highs from coffee. He began experimenting with different nootropics and shared them with Jamie, but they both wanted something more convenient and reliable.

With Alex’s background in neuroscience and Jamie’s background in chemistry, they worked together to create an all-natural gum packed with scientifically backed ingredients to boost energy and focus. And so, Smart Gum was born.

Fast forward to today, and Smart fuels people around the globe—including us. Jamie found a renewed passion for racing, trained with the Paralympic team, and earned a pilot’s license. Meanwhile, Alex continues to create large-scale murals that are admired worldwide.

We know life can be overwhelming, but we believe everyone deserves that extra boost to become the best version of themselves. That’s why we’ve spent the last 8 years building Smart and helping people reach their potential. Let’s do more, together.
